Care and Share International Foundation announced its new programme, an awareness campaign against drugs called Vazhikatti (guide). The programme was launched by actor Padmasree Mammootty, who is the Chief patron and mentor of Care and Share Foundation. The function was held at K. E. M. School, Alangad, near Aluva on 19th June 2010.
During the inaugural speech, Mammootty said how recent surveys have revealed the alarming fact that, on an average, youngsters begin consuming alcohol and narcotic substances at an early age of 13.These revelations compelled him and his organisation to launch ‘Vazhikatti’ which focuses on building awareness against drugs among school children.
As a part of the first phase of the campaign, Care and Share International Foundation organised awareness classes, seminars and interactive sessions in schools all over Kerala to spread awareness against the usage of drugs. The organisation has also produced name slips which contain message against the usage of drugs and distributed the same to the children in schools. In addition to these, the Foundation erected large flex boards in schools which contain messages that induce children and their parents to avoid drugs for a healthy and satisfied family life.
The first phase of ‘Vazhikatti’ came to an end after completing 100 schools in Kerala and the organisation launched the second phase of the project in November 2012. The second phase of the programme was inaugurated by the Veteran Malayalam actor Shri Madhu at MD Seminary Higher Secondary School, Kottayam. The coordination and execution of all the activities under the Vazhikatty initiative are done by Mr. Robert V.Kuriakose who is the Director (Relations) of Care & Share International Foundation.
