Poorvikam is the recent initiative of Care and Share International Foundation which aims at the welfare of tribal people. The programme was inaugurated by Padmashri Dr. Mammootty on September 2012 in a tribal colony called Kundalakkudi, near Munnar in Idukki District.
Even though some tribes in Kerala have come to the mainstream, most of them are far from development and education. Irrespective of the name of the tribe, the tribal people in Kerala generally face problems like poverty, illiteracy and poor health. It is in this backdrop, Care & Share International Foundation put its first step in this area through its Tribal Development Project called ‘Poorvikam’.
With the association of famous hospitals in Kerala the organisation conducts medical camps in tribal areas. Through these camps, the organisation helps the tribal people in diagnosis, gives them proper treatment and conducts surgery if needed. Under the ‘Poorvikam’ project, the organisation provides educational aid to tribal children and ensure economic security by providing income generation programmes to the unemployed. The programme also aims at the infrastructure developments of tribal household. Care & Share International Foundation’s Managing Director Rev. Fr. Thomas Kurian Marottipuzha guides and monitors all the activities of this programme.
